Can We Move Beyond the Pain of Our Past?
Format: Online Access This online access edition provides portal access to the devotional and journal content. It is not an ebook or downloadable file.
Overcoming Past Pain is a 30-day Christian devotional and journal for men who are ready to confront the hurts, struggles, guilt, and bondage that can continue to shape life long after the original experience has passed.
No one else fully knows the distance we have traveled or the cost of the pain we have carried. Yet Christ remains our Savior, Redeemer, Keeper, and Comforter. Our past does not have to determine our future; God can restore what has been wounded and use even our afflictions as part of His greater purpose.
Through daily devotional readings, Scripture, reflection, and personal journaling, Overcoming Past Pain challenges men to recognize their worth in God, respond to His call, and move from simply having survived painful experiences toward truly becoming overcomers in Christ.
Overcoming Past Pain is Month 2 of the BounceBack Devotional and Journal for Men series. Explore the complete 12-month devotional series.
What You’ll Explore in This 30-Day Men’s Devotional
Pain Caused by Others
Oftentimes we are victimized by others who, intentionally or not, cause significant pain in our lives. But, we must realize that our future destiny depends on how we respond to our past—will we remain defeated? Or, will we rise to higher heights to accomplish great things?
Call to Purpose
As a result of the afflictions that we experience in life, we often get detoured in our quest to become complete. Often, we cannot see how our pain and suffering can be useful in the Kingdom of God—but God has another plan! It is because God allowed you to suffer that you become more valuable to the Kingdom—and it is when we recognize this fact that we begin to respond to the call of God.
God Knows You
Understanding our self-worth is learning to see ourselves as God sees us. We can, however, become trapped in the world’s image of us—how they see us. The world wants to place us in a box and dismiss us as just one more, out of a large group of sameness. The Lord, however, wants to lift us—so that God would be glorified through our lives! Believe it! God knows us better than we know ourselves—and things are so much better than we ever thought!
Restoration from Hurt, Guilt, and Bondage
When we initially failed, fell, sinned, or felt trapped, we may have felt that in some way we deserved to feel the way we were feeling. But just as people who are assaulted by another become victims, they often want to stay victims to assuage their guilt. That is, the guilt that they should have known better, fought harder, or just reacted differently in the moment. But life is just that: filled with moments—moments that God will deliver you out of and into His Marvelous Light!
