What we quickly found was that we were different and the standards that we had for marriage were pretty much built around the paradigm established by our own families–who were also different. That meant that when she rejected my understanding of marriage–she was rejecting my family–and the same was true for me.
What we needed was someone–or something that was neutral on the expectations of marriage. We found that neutrality in the Word of God. And from that day on, the Word and the Lord are our final stop on all matters.
